Luis Cardoso (b. 1974 – Fermentelos-Portugal). Saxophonist, Composer, Teacher and Conductor, PhD in Music. As composer and arranger his works have been gaining attention from different fields of the music spectra and he has won several prizes of composition: in the year 2002 the Great Prize Silva Dionísio of Composition for Wind Band, promoted by INATEL, by unanimous decision of the jury, in 2006, the Composition Award from the Aveiro Federation of Musical Societies, 2.nd Prize “Banda Sinfonica Portuguesa” for composition for band (2014), nominations for “Harvey G. Phillips Awards for Excellence in Composition” – Tuba Solo Category – International Tuba Euphonium Association, USA (2010 and 2014) and the prize in 2016. He is the head of the Escola de Artes da Bairrada (Bairrada Arts School) in Troviscal, Portugal. As a wind band conductor, he is the artistic director of “Orquestra Filarmónica 12 de Abril” – Travassô, Portugal. He is invited regularly to give courses and workshops or to speak at seminars in diverse domains such as the saxophone, composition and musical theory. Lately he has been a much sought out composer and arranger. Most of his original works are being published by the Dutch company Molenaar. He have a personal catalogue with about 700 arrangements and 90 original works.
